Abstract:
As robots become more capable and autonomous, will they also become easier to work with? Advances in deep learning, large language models, and foundation models promise richer, more natural human-robot collaboration, but may also introduce new sources of misunderstanding and error. In this talk, I will describe our research analysing human-robot teams and developing learning-based methods to facilitate human-robot teaming while enhancing human capabilities and reducing errors.
Biography:
Prof. Dana Kulić conducts research in human–centred robotics, focusing on human–robot interaction, interactive robot learning and human motion analysis. Her career includes research at the University of Tokyo on robot learning from demonstration, and a decade at the University of Waterloo, where she built a leading group in human-robot interaction and assistive systems. Since 2019, she is the Director of Monash Robotics at Monash University. She is a Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor, an ARC Future Fellow, a CSIRO Adjunct Fellow and the Deputy Director of the ARC Centre for Optimised Ageing. She studies how robots can learn from and respond to human behaviour to collaborate safely and effectively in real-world settings, from healthcare and rehabilitation to industrial and everyday environments.
